Every four years, the United States is in an uproar and becomes divided. People are mesmerized by the speeches that they hear and captured by the promises that are made. They begin to idolize candidates and political parties that they identify with because they are longing for something more. They look at the state of the country that they love so much and are discouraged. People are thirsty for change. They are desperately searching for someone who they can put their hope in.
But all too soon, the election is over and a new President is sworn into office. Reality sets in, promises are broken, and the trust between the American people and the governing authorities is shattered. The endless cycle continues. Four years passes and the people are once again in a state of despair. Those running for office make the same claim that so many others have made before them. They believe that THEY are the person that everyone has been waiting for. They believe that THEY are the individual that will change everything and that will be able to save the country from the path of destruction that it is on.
November 8th, 2016 is a day that I have looked forward to since I was a little girl. I would finally have a say in who led the greatest country on earth. My voice would finally be heard. However, all of my anticipation has been met with disappointment. Over the last few months, I have become disheartened. I want a President of noble character and of integrity. I want a President that is a man or woman after the heart of Jesus and who seeks to further His kingdom. I want a President that the children of this country can look up to and be inspired by. That person is not Hillary Clinton and that person is not Donald Trump. These are not the options that I have waited so long to choose between. I have listened to what the world says: the media, the politicians, my professors, and the older generation. There is a group of people that believes that the country is doomed if Hillary Clinton takes office. There is a group of people that believes that the country is doomed if Donald Trump takes office. The future seems bleak. I have succumb to fear and to worry, but I refuse to do so anymore.
I have come to a conclusion. Hillary Clinton is not going to save us. Donald Trump is not going to save us. The only one who can save us is God. He was, is, and always will be on the throne despite the outcome of this election. I am going to stop spending my time worrying, and start spending my time praying. I am praying that God would cause a revolution in this country and that people would begin turning to Him in great numbers. I am praying that eyes would be opened. I am praying that we would stop worshiping our political parties and start looking to Jesus, for HE is our only hope and the only one worthy of our praise.
When we belong to Jesus Christ, We belong to the one who spoke the world into existence, the one who overcame death, and did the unthinkable: saved wicked and wretched people like you and I. He is the Most High King, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Maker of the world. If God can raise Jesus from the dead, He can surely deal with our national debt. If He can calm the raging seas, He can surely bring peace to our nation. If He can soften the hardest of hearts, He can surely work in the lives of our Presidential candidates.
Donald Trump often tells the people that flock to his rallies “I am with you.” Hillary Clinton supporters boldly proclaim “I’m with her.” I am done putting my sole hope in political parties and in people. I am going to put my hope in the only one who will never let me down. I am with Jesus.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” -2 Chronicles 7:14
