Ms. Sotomayor’s family is indeed from the United States (of KKKA, as the cartoon puts it). Puerto Rico has been part of the United States since 1898.

Good point. . .honestly I didn’t look it up; when I get home I will look at fixing it. BTW the “KKKA” bit is a quote from Barack Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright.

Remember when Republicans were calling Democrats racist for opposing Bush’s nomination of Miguel Estrada to the D.C. Circuit Appeals Court — a man with no prior judicial experience? This is turning out to be a real object lesson in how Republicans really have little understanding of race or racism in modern America, and no self-awareness when it comes to their own racial problems. Not that this should be a surprise to anyone!

What does this have to do with Republicans? Or, for that matter, their racial problems?

Well, it’s Republicans who seem compelled to get all tangled up in race and gender when trying to explain why they think Sotomayor is the worst possible choice for the Supreme Court.

Also, can you explain the pharaoh headdress thing? I don’t get it. I mean, I recognize the Doonesbury homage but what else is going on there?

That’s a blanket statement with no supporting evidence and a truth value of zero.

Speaking of getting tangled up in race in Supreme Court confirmation processes – you must have missed the Clarence Thomas confirmation.

The Pharaoh thing refers to Obama’s obsession with killing infants

Obsession with killing infants, really? I still don’t get it.

Pharaoh ordered all Jewish male infants killed in Egypt b/c their population growth started to scare him. . .Obama happens to be the only person ever that I know of who has defended infanticide as a state senator.
